| Thanks to all
the wonderful people who have opened their hearts and adopted
a horse from HorseNet. We love to hear how and what they are
doing, so if you have a HorseNet horse and would like to send
a current photo OR send a short blurb to be posted with your
adopted horse's photo, please email those to Beth at b_kokoruda@yahoo.com. |

ADRIAN
Here are a couple of pictures of Logan (aka Adrian) at his new home. He is quite a guy and is enjoying his new pals although not pictured; two other horses, three dogs and a cat. He has been worked every day from the ground and been under saddle three days and for having been under utilized for a period of time, his training and poise is quite a pleasant surprise. He has been out under saddle alone and with other horses without any problems some miles and attention won't resolve. We have a couple of more adventures to try such as heading out to Morgan Run as both a solo team and with other riders. Quite the boy... |

AMEE
I came to Horse Net Horse Rescue almost 5 years ago. I was looking to adopt a small horse, or a large pony!!(you see, I'm a rather small adult!) When i first layed eyes on Amee-it truly was, love at first sight. And it was for her as well--i know this because, when i asked about the little mare, Elle told me, she was a "nut case" and had been "very badly beaten" in her life. No one, has been able to touch her in almost 2 years! That didn't stop me, I started to walk over to her, and low and behold, she was walking towards me! We met in the middle, and i put my hand on her neck, she didn't move! Elle's mouth fell open, as i said "I'll take this one".. And from that day forth, i found my true "Soul Mate"--i ride her at least twice a week, and she is so loving and willing, to do what i ask of her. I couldn't have custom ordered a more perfect pony for me!! Thank you God and Thank you Horse Net--you saved 2 life's that day. |

ATHENA
Athena, the horse I fell in love with... I'd love to write about her. You kidding ? :) When I met Athena a year and a half ago she was less than impressed, but I knew she'd noticed me because she never missed a chance to pin her ears or snap her teeth at me. Knowing she couldn't bite if she was chewing, (and wanting to improve my value in her eyes) I made it a point to always have treats to offer, and sought her out regularly to give them to her. Though time Athena came to look forward visits and would nicker to me. Then one day, I found her down. The horror was unimaginable. The mean scary horse persona was gone completely. In pain from a hoof abcess Athena became a really reasonable nice horse. Clearly "mean" Athena was an act. As she became more managable, the rescue began to consider working harder toward getting her adopted. Typically I'm thrilled for our horses when they go to their forever homes, but the idea of "Athena-my-love" being adopted was unimaginable. I felt that no matter how great the person.. they would never understand this horse the way I did. Realistically, that might not be true, but when feelings become that deep, the connection has been made.. I realized then that, mentally I had already adopted this amazing horse. The next step was to make it official so the paperwork was filled out and the dream became reality. Athena is currently progressing brilliantly thru natural horsemanship training. To me, Athena was HorseNet's best kept secret. I found my perfect horse in Athena, and as a volunteer, still get to work with many as yet undiscovered "perfect horses" waiting to be discovered by their special people. |

BEN
Diana, Ben and Jerry's new "mom" sent me the following a little while ago, I can't believe that Benny hasn't brayed yet for her:
The ponies are settling in nicely and love being out in the field, even if only a few times a day for short periods. We are all looking forward to full turnout. So far they have not been hard to catch. Jerry is very docile and I can always walk up to him. Ben is like a big puppy dog. I can't carry treats in my pockets anymore because he frisks me. He nuzzles all the way down my leg and then licks my shoe. I try to clean the stalls while they are out and Ben always manages to make one or two loops back up to the barn to check on me. They whinny when they see me but I haven't heard any brays so far. |
 |
|
BEN
2001 16h TB Gelding. This handsome boy came to HNHR in 2011 from a riding school. Ben, at this time, is suitable to be a companion only. He has an old injury to his pastern bone that we are evaluating. This boy would make a stunning lawn ornament! He ties, grooms and is good for the vet and farrier. Ben is currently great friends with Maggie and we would like them to retire to a farm together. |

Adopted September, 2010: Everyone here is doing very well. Huckleberry (Buck - front) definitely completed our family. He is such a character. He knows when I walk out my door and starts whinnying. One day my husband moved my truck down to the garage and Huck started calling me then he saw my husband and was like "who are you?" Then proceeded to race around the pasture looking for me. Too funny. |

|
BUDDA
Buddha (BUD) came from the Garrison Forest School Equine program and was adopted by Carolann in 2004 at the age of 18. He was Carolann's first horse and he remains an amazing Trail Horse at the ripe age of 25. He trailers, stands for Farrier and dentist and remains the most ZEN calm horse. Through out the years, Buddha has served as a calming effect to other horses that sometimes spooky easily. Buddha has an amazing blood line of both cousin to Secretariat and a Great great great Grandson of War Admiral. Buddha is proof that horses that come from rescues are deserving of a second chance and can be priceless life changing companions.” |

Chi Chi is happy at her home with two very nice women who dote on her. In this photo you can see her also enjoying the company of two alpacas, Ace and Buckeye. Apparently the alpacas love to watch tv through the window and they have been teaching the little ones how to do so but one can only think that they are just too little to peer in. We also wonder if Chi Chi has picked up Alpaca speak in order to get filled in on who is doing what on Dancing With the Stars. Chi Chi is a happy girl.

CODY
Adopted April, 2011: He was wonderful coming off he trailer and paid almost no attention to the other horses. He was very curious about the paddock. We put him in the side one by himself while they greet. The bigger chestnut (Gus) has been sniffing him and walking up and down the fence line keeping Cody company. I can't thank you all enough for taking care of this sweet boy long enough for me to find him. I'm sure he will be happy here and he will be taken care of and loved. |

FURY
When I started volunteering at HorseNet some 4 years ago-- it really didn't cross my mind to adopt a horse. I was happy to have all of the horses to love on. I knew that my daughter would probably want another horse and she fell in love with Stretch right away. I was happy for her to have her horse that I could also ride. As I started to get to know the horses I had a soft spot for Fury--especially when a potential adoption fell through. I could see that he so wanted his own human...this is when we really started to bond.Fury and I have been together for 2 years now, even though we ride--he is definately more of a pet. As soon as I go out into the field he comes up for a hug. He is one of those horses that will stand there all day getting hugs and kisses. He also chases the other horses away when we are playing. Although he doesn't love a bath--he will take the hose in is mouth and drink the water and he likes to play tug-o-war with his lead rope. He has brought me so much joy...if I could bring him into the house--I'm pretty sure he would sleep in bed with me. He is a sweet horse and loves everyone--he will let just about anyone ride him and definately behaves better for other riders than with me--spoiled! He's my boy! |

GOBIE
Adopted April, 2011: He's getting along great with the other horses, and even has a new best friend--a palomino named Honey. Today was our first real "work" session and it went really well. He's definitely not use to people telling him what to do, but he's pretty good natured about it anyway and is so far a really quick learner. I'm still getting my "sea legs" back too -- it's been probably six years since I've done this kind of work--but one thing's evident: I'll be in great shape in no time. Ha! |

GRACIE
A 2009 red roan Mule. She came to HorseNet from the HSUS
on October 2nd. She was one of the 49 horses they rescued from a neglect
case in WV in May of 2010. Gracie was suffering from overgrown hooves,
parasite infection, severe trust issues and a very poor coat. These
horses had no access to water or food, they were forced to painfully
lean across a barbed wire fence to reach for the scarce remaining
grass. This beautiful angel has found a home to call her own with Nat & Mark. |

Adopted September, 2010: Gus is doing great. He is a good eater. He has filled out beautifully. I think he has gained 200 to 250 pounds. I've taken a few lessons on him. He is an outstanding jumper. I've taken him trail riding a few times and he picks up things quickly like crossing water. He has bonded quickly to my old morgan. |

JOY
Adopted 2010: Joy is happily living on a 10+ acre farm in Montgomery County with other farm animals. She is going to be used for animal therapy for handicapped children when she is fully acclimated to her new home and her new job. She shares a paddock with a paint named Woody along with sheep, goats and a pot bellied pig. Joy is excellent for standing and being petted and after some training time will do very well having the younger children up on her back for a little walk. Joy looks quite content with her new surroundings and family. We at HNHR are thrilled she has found her forever home.

LUCKY
Adopted 2004
Wayne and his wife Corinne are experienced with HNHR. Lucky is on the right who has been with them for 7 years and this pretty mare is 33 years old! Don't tell her that. Her long time companion John Paul (another HNHR horse) passed away and Wayne recognized immediately that he needed another companion for Lucky. Soul to the rescue. They visited Soul only one time and new he was the one to bring their sad mare out of her funk. Soul is a big boy and was quite happy to oblige and is enjoying his retirement with a wonderful family. Soul immediately took over the job of taking care of Lucky and the two are a happy pair bringing their "humans" much happiness. |

MACKEY
Adopted September, 2010: Mackey is teaching three lovely young ladies how to ride and care for him very patiently. Also...he must have been a cattle horse in his previous life because he seems to think it is his job to round up the herd. He has much fun gathering them up and telling them what to do. The same day he will come up to his round pen and spend a few hours teaching the girls how to ride him. The Jones family loves Mackey Mack (as they call him) and love and keep him safe forever. |
 |
|
MAGGIE
1998 16h Oldenburg Mare. This beautiful girl came to HNHR in 2011 from a riding school. Maggie, at this time, is suitable to be a companion only. She has extensive arthritis in her hocks and a spur in her pelvis. This girl would make a stunning lawn ornament! She ties, grooms and is good for the vet and farrier. She has a nickname of Houdini ~ since she can get herself out of any stall! We had to add additional locks that she could not reach. Maggie is a sensitive girl that needs lots of love. She is currently great friends with Ben and we would like them to retire to a farm together. |

MAUDY
Adopted November, 2010: I decided to give Maude a carrot & have her take it from my mouth. At first she looked at me like I was crazy, but quickly caught on and does so quite daintily. We really need to get a book on training mules, because I think she'll be willing to try almost anything if it's presented on her terms. She's already become rather affectionate with both of us. |

1999 15hh black Morgan mare. As you can tell in these pictures Midnight
is an easy keeper! This beautiful girl needs light riding, she would
be a great pleasure horse, trail horse, or lead line. She has training,
but is a bit rusty she is suitable for an advanced beginner. She was
so comfortable in the ring she even stopped half way through to eat
a weed....this is a great girl that would make a wonderful pet for
a loving home. |

MOBY
Registered 1998 grey 16.1 (+/-) reg QH appendix gelding. He can only be ridden in a bitless bridle due to a tongue injury.
He was ridden 08MAY11 and it was determined he would be best with an intermediate rider since he is a very big and sometimes doesn't like what is being asked of him. He does have good breaks and likes to walk/trot, but was not crazy about being asked to canter. Herd bound so has potential to be great on the trails with a buddy - not spooky. He will come when called and loves attention. He
does crib. He is out 24/7 and is an easy keeper. Barefoot. |

Petunia (aka Tuna)
2000 11.3h Pony Mare. This lovely pony is stunning and with one blue eye she really stands out in a crowd! She currently WTC like a pro...she can be a little frisky while being ridden and will require someone to teach her to slow down and relax. Tuna ties, grooms and is good for the vet and farrier. The Parkton Ponies came to HNHR in June of 2011. She had a BSC of 3, poor coat and very long hooves. Now healthy and rehabbed she is ready to find her new home. This cute little pony has no limitations and requires an intermediate rider. Any child would be lucky to have this super fun pony. |

PIPER
1998 12h Pony Mare. This beautiful pony is super fun! She is currently WTC and can be a little lazy. Piper ties and grooms well but can be antsy for the vet and farrier. The Parkton Ponies came to HNHR in June of 2011. She had a BSC of 3, poor coat and very long hooves. Now healthy and rehabbed she is ready to find her new home. This cute little pony has no limitations and requires an advanced beginner rider. Any child would be lucky to have this super cute pony! |

POKEY
Words cannot explain how much I love Pokey!! He came into my life at a time when I needed encouragement! He not only brought encouragement, joy, and love, he also has got me absolutely love with riding again! We can go trail riding with no worries, nothing surprises him at age 20 and he enjoys the WALK as much as I do!! With new shoes, newly filed teeth, hours of groomingand lots of feed he looks like the champ he is! I am so glad Pokey is in my life!

POLO
Adopted April, 2011: We have been so pleased with him. He is fitting in very well with our little herd, treats the children with great kindness, and was a perfect gentleman when Kat not only led him at the front of the Palm Sunday procession around our church, but also led him all the way up to the altar, and out the back door! He never flinched, and the church buzzed for days afterwards about “that wonderful little pony.” All in all, he seems to be very happy with us. Thank you so much for all the hard work you put in on him beforehand. |

TAZ
I had the opportunity to visit Taz this week. He is living with a wonderful family at their home. He looks great and has been worked so he is actually in shape and not looking like a balloon...he was also very clean which I am not used to as he was always so dirty with us. I could actually see all his cute spots and markings...he is a handsome boy. He came right over to Jess and me, but as soon as his little girl came down he hi-tailed it right over to her. Here's the part that made me get teary eyed. The family lives between Westminster and Manchester--so on the 4th there were fireworks from both sides--Taz didn't take so well to all of the commotion and was very upset in his field running from one side to the other--the little girl (Ryan) and her dad (George) took Tazzy into the barn and stayed with him all night! As I was getting ready to leave Ryan gave me a big hug and told me how much she loves Taz and that all the neighbors and kids love him and how sweet he is with everyone. Taz has a family that loves him. |

BELLE (formerly Tinkerbelle)
Belle is truly a Horsenet baby - she came to Horsenet via her mom, Rosie, a sweet, blind morgan who had been put out to pasture with a stallion - and the morgan farm didn't know she was pregnant (?!) As a blind mare Rosie would became frantic when her baby would wander off a bit, so they put a bell around the foal - hence her birth name, Tinkerbelle. (We shortened it to Belle when she was adopted; she is certainly the belle of our farm!) When I adopted her, Belle was 3 years old and pretty green. But as a relative new-comer to riding, I was pretty green too. The two of us have worked it all out - she has agreed to mature into a lovely trail horse, and I've agreed to breathe and enjoy the scenery! We've had the benefit of lots of support from my husband, Jim, who has helped with the training, and his morgan, Jake, who is happy to lead the way. And Belle isn't complaining - treeless saddle, boots instead of horseshoes, and a bitless bridle - not to mention all the attention she deserves! |
