ATHENA
1993 +/- 15.3h National Show Horse mare ~ Requires experienced handler/rider only

As you can see Athena is a beautiful mare and is currently looking for a home that will accept her as the strong minded mare she is. She would do best in a smaller herd where she can be the boss. She can be unpredictable at times, she will need a lot of patient training. Athena needs someone that she can bond with and will teach her boundaries while providing unconditional love.

BLAZE
2005 13h Pony Mare ~ Requires experienced handler/trainer only

Blaze is an interesting pony, she can be very sweet one day and very naughty the next. She requires training both on the ground and under saddle. She is a smart pony, but can be difficult to handle. She is currently working on ground manners, and is improving daily. Blaze was born while at HNHR, her mother Blossom was rescued from a WV neglect case in 2005. Her mother was so underweight and feral upon arrival, we were unaware that she was in foal until months later...and then there was Blaze. She is willing to learn and will make a great challenging project for the right person.

BLOSSOM
2000 14.2hh cream/white stock mare

CECE
2001 15h Thoroughbred Mare ~ Experienced Handler

CeCe would be suitable for a very experienced rider only. She has great field manners, but is pushy while being led; she has no concept of personal space. She seems very willing, but knows nothing, CeCe would do best with a strong trainer, with a lot of positive rewards. She is pigeon toed in the front, but that doesn't stop her! The pretty girl would be a great project for the right person.

CeCe would be suitable for an experienced rider or a someone working closely with a trainer..

CHARLOTTE
2001 QHx 15hh mare

She came to HorseNet in May 2010. She was one of the 29 horses rescued from a horrible abuse case in Garrett County. When she arrived she was under weight and infected with intestinal parasites and lice, but after a lot of treatment and care she is finally recovering wonderfully.

She is a beautiful girl, but is not ready to be ridden at this time. She came from a horrible neglect case, and although she is perfectly healthy and has no limitations, that we know of, we have been unable to work with her due to her extreme fright. She tries really hard to be with us, but the minute we try to catch her she strikes out. She has calmed down considerably from how she was when she initially came to us; at that time she was completely terrified of people. She is very nice in the field and gets along great with other horses; she will follow our volunteers around at arms length, comes when called and will take a treat as nice as anyone, but the minute you reach out to catch her or even to pet her -- the ears go back. On the rare occasions we do catch her she's wonderful!

Can she be trained and have a bond with a human? Absolutely! It's just going to take some work to build up the trust...so she will be a project, probably a big project. We would love nothing more than for that beauty to have a home of her own and to feel secure and loved.

DOLCE - Adoption Pending
2006 +/- 16h Thoroughbred Gelding ~ Advanced Handler

Dolce came to HNHR in 2012 when we were contacted by Montgomery County's Animal Control requesting our help with a recent starvation case. Thankfully we were able to help. When this handsome boy arrived he was thin and suffering from severe rain rot. Even in his poor condition he was once of the sweetest horses we have had the chance to work with. There is not one mean bone in this boys body! We are hoping he will not have any limitations and will be a great riding horse.

Dolce will be evaluated under saddle soon, we will post updates as available.

FURY (Forio)
2000 +/- 14h Palomino Halflinger Mare ~ Requires an experienced rider/handler

Fury is a beautiful thick girl! This girl needs a lot of work but has great potential to be a cool riding horse. She can be very pushy on the ground, she probably would not be good for a small child. Right now Fury is in a small paddock with Cimmy (companion only page) and they get a long great. But when she is in with other mares, she can be very mean. Fury is a very easy keeper and requires hay or limited grass only.

Fury is suitable for an experienced rider only or a family working closely with a trainer.

QUICK SMILE
2001 15.1hh Thoroughbred mare

She is an AMAZING horse, but is the boss and needs someone to give her a job and direction. She is suitable for an advanced rider and carries herself beautifully in the hunter ring. She knows flying changes and mostly every other ground command. It's been a few years since she's been ridden and will need refresher work.

RB
2002 12h Mule

She came to HorseNet from the HSUS on October 2nd. She was one of the 49 horses they rescued from a neglect case in WV in May of 2010. RB was suffering from overgrown hooves, parasite infection and severe trust issues.  These horses had no access to water or food, they were forced to painfully lean across a barbed wire fence to reach for the scarce remaining grass. RB got her name because she is completely untrained, and has no "brakes" so was nick named "rope burn". RB is VERY cute, and really seems like she wants to be a good girl. She requires an experience horse/mule handler and will require a lot of training. RB's training is none; we will continue to work with her and post updates as available.

REY
2007 +/- 13.3h Palomino Mare ~ Advanced Handler

Rey is a beautiful pony that came to HNHR in 2010. She was one of the 29 horses rescued from a horrible abuse case in Garrett County. When she arrived she was under weight and infected with intestinal parasites and lice, but after a lot of love and care she recovered wonderfully and is now ready for her very own life-long home.

Rey has been in training now and she is amazing! This smart little pony is ready for anything, she would be wonderful for any discipline. She is currently walk/trot/canter and is doing very well, in fact, she is surprising everyone! She has been out and about on trails both with another horse and by herself. She is not a spooky pony, is willing to try just about anything. Rey was broke off site at a very active barn, lots of noise, dogs and tractors...she barely blinks an eye. Rey stands on cross ties, loves to be groomed and bathed, and is learning that the farrier doesn't bite! This pony is going to be a amazing addition to any family!

Rey is suitable for an experienced rider only or a family working closely with a trainer.

ROCKET
1999 15.3h brown Thoroughbred gelding ~ Advanced Rider

Rocket is a very sweet boy who in his former life was a race horse but was retired due to a fracture in his LF leg. Rocket has been at HNHR since 2004 and is all healed and ready for his new life! Rocket is a little antsy for the farrier but he is good for the vet and ties like a champ. He is currently being ridden walk/trot and has been responding wonderfully to commands. We will continue to improve his training and will post updates as available.

At this time Rocket requires an Advanced Rider/Handler

SUMMER
2001 15.3h Thoroughbred gelding ~ Requires an intermediate and above rider in the ring and an experienced rider on the trails

This flashy boy has been an absolute pleasure to work with and is really enjoying his time under saddle. He ties, grooms and is good for the vet & farrier. He does have an old scar on his eye that we do not believe limits his sight. He is tattooed. Summer requires an intermediate and above rider in the ring and an experienced rider on the trails. Summer gets better after every ride, he will continue to become quite the amazing horse for his future riding partner.
