ANGEL (formerly
Leale) (Arabber)
Early teens,15.hh Arabian cross mare ~ Requires intermediate or
above rider
She is very
fat. She apparently has been trained but just needs to get back into
it. She will shy from the mounting block, but if you get a leg up
or mount from the ground she is fine. She was an Arabber horse in
Baltimore city - pulling vegetable carts. She is out in a field right
now, but doesn't have a halter on; she can be hard to catch. She is
totally healthy. She would be fine for driving and trail riding. Her
feet are not bad - the farrier just noticed that she had a touch of
road founder when she first came in. She has been trimmed several
times since then and he feels that she will be fine She is also barefoot
and has good feet. She has some trust issues, but is well trained
once under saddle - just needs brush-up. Requires intermediate or
above rider.

ATHENA
2003 14.3hh Appaloosa mare
She came to HorseNet form the HSUS in October 2010. She was one of the 49 horses they rescued form a neglect case in WV in May. She was malnourished, suffering from overgrown hooves and a parasite infection. These horses had no access to water or food, they were forced to painfully lean across a barbed wire fence to reach for the scarce remaining grass. Athena was very frightened when she came to us, she continues to make progress daily but is still fearful. She would be perfect for an experienced horse owner, that could take the time to train her. She will make a great riding horse or companion horse; a great addition to anyone's family. Her training is unknown; we will continue to work with her and post updates as available.

ATHENA
1993 +/- 15.3h National Show Horse mare ~ Requires experienced handler/rider only
As you can see Athena is a beautiful mare and is currently looking for a home that will accept her as the strong minded mare she is. She would do best in a smaller herd where she can be the boss. She can be unpredictable at times, she will need a lot of patient training. Athena needs someone that she can bond with and will teach her boundaries while providing unconditional love.

BLAZE
2005 13h Pony Mare ~ Requires experienced handler/trainer only
Blaze is an interesting pony, she can be very sweet one day and very naughty the next. She requires training both on the ground and under saddle. She is a smart pony, but can be difficult to handle. She is currently working on ground manners, and is improving daily. Blaze was born while at HNHR, her mother Blossom was rescued from a WV neglect case in 2005. Her mother was so underweight and feral upon arrival, we were unaware that she was in foal until months later...and then there was Blaze. She is willing to learn and will make a great challenging project for the right person. EMAIL HORSENET ABOUT THIS HORSE

CECE
2001 15h Thoroughbred Mare ~ Experienced Handler
CeCe would be suitable for a very experienced rider only. She has great field manners, but is pushy while being led; she has no concept of personal space. She seems very willing, but knows nothing, CeCe would do best with a strong trainer, with a lot of positive rewards. She is pigeon toed in the front, but that doesn't stop her! The pretty girl would be a great project for the right person.
CeCe would be suitable for an experienced rider or a someone working closely with a trainer..

CHAROLETTE
9 year old roan mare
She came to HorseNet
in May 2010. She was one of the 29 horses rescued from a horrible
abuse case in Garrett County. When she arrived she was under weight
and infected with intestinal parasites and lice, but after a lot of
treatment and care she is finally recovering wonderfully.
Update March 2013: She is a beautiful girl, but is not ready to be ridden at this time. She came from a horrible neglect case, and although she is perfectly healthy and has no limitations, that we know of, we have been unable to work with her due to her extreme fright. She tries really hard to be with us, but the minute we try to catch her she strikes out. She has calmed down considerably from how she was when she initially came to us; at that time she was completely terrified of people.
She is very nice in the field and gets along great with other horses; she will follow our volunteers around at arms length, comes when called and will take a treat as nice as anyone, but the minute you reach out to catch her or even to pet her -- the ears go back. On the rare occasions we do catch her she's wonderful!
Can she be trained and have a bond with a human? Absolutely! It's just going to take some work to build up the trust...so she will be a project, probably a big project. We would love nothing more than for that beauty to have a home of her own and to feel secure and loved.

only got outside 15 minutes or so a day. He is a sweet boy that will
do well with someone that understands him. EMAIL HORSENET ABOUT THIS HORSE *IN NEED OF A

DOLCE
2006 +/- 16h Thoroughbred Gelding ~ Advanced Handler
Dolce came to HNHR in 2012 when we were contacted by Montgomery County's Animal Control requesting our help with a recent starvation case. Thankfully we were able to help. When this handsome boy arrived he was thin and suffering from severe rain rot. Even in his poor condition he was once of the sweetest horses we have had the chance to work with. There is not one mean bone in this boys body! We are hoping he will not have any limitations and will be a great riding horse.
Dolce will be evaluated under saddle soon, we will post updates as available.

FLAG
1994 16h Thoroughbred gelding ~ Requires an experienced rider
This handsome fella certainly doesn't act his age! Flag is a quirky, jittery boy who needs direction while riding. He would make a fun riding buddy or dressage prospect, flat work would be best for him. We have not yet evaluated him on the trails but hope to soon. Flag came to HNHR in 2004 and is tattooed. FURY (Forio)
2000 +/- 14h Palomino Halflinger Mare ~ Requires an experienced rider/handler
Fury is a beautiful thick girl! This girl needs a lot of work but has great potential to be a cool riding horse. She can be very pushy on the ground, she probably would not be good for a small child. Right now Fury is in a small paddock with Cimmy (companion only page) and they get a long great. But when she is in with other mares, she can be very mean. Fury is a very easy keeper and requires hay or limited grass only.
Fury is suitable for an experienced rider only or a family working closely with a trainer.

LARRY
Late teens Chestnut Thoroughbred gelding
Has not been ridden since the end of 2009, so would need to be started back slowly. May be suitable as a trail horse but has mostly been ridden in the ring. He is a super friendly horse, loves being handled, is fine for the Farrier and vet and is ‘laid back’. Believed to be an easy loader. He does crib but has no other vices.

She is currently walk/trot/canter and is doing very well, in fact, she is surprising everyone! She has been out and about on trails both with another horse and by herself. She is not a spooky pony, is willing to try just about anything. Rey was broke off site at a very active barn, lots of noise, dogs and tractors...she barely blinks an eye.
