HorseNet does not sell horses, but rather adopts them out to suitable and approved homes. Our adoptions are intended to be for the life of the horse and not until such time is no longer suitable to the purpose for which it was originally adopted.

ADOPTION RULES
Please read before proceeding to our available horses.

HorseNet horses cannot be resold, rehomed or bred and should the need arise and you are no longer able to care for these animals they must be returned to HorseNet (adoption fees will not be refunded, other restrictions apply).
Return Your HorseNet Horse: If you are no longer able to keep your HorseNet horse for any reason and must return it, send us a written notice via email with a minimum of 60 days notice (although the more the better), have a negative coggins test done (all horses must have a current negative coggins test), and have shots records available (all horses must have a current Rabies, 4/5 Way and West Nile vaccinations). In addition, effective June 1, 2010 a $250 return fee towards their care (per horse) will be required.
bullet Each potential adopter is required to fill out an Adoption Application which must be approved before any horse will be adopted and is good for one year once its approved.
bullet Adopters are required to sign and abide by our adoption contract.
bullet Adopters must be at least 18 years of age with no history of animal abuse or neglect.
bullet Adoption fees must be paid in full and in advance before any horse can be adopted. (Adoption fees are not refundable).
bullet Adopter must reside in Maryland or within 2.5 hours of our Mt Airy rescue. For the health and safety of our horses we don't make exceptions to this policy. To determine if you are within our adoption area, go to http://maps.google.com.

SEEING A HORSE -- Horses are shown to prospective adopters by appointment only. Please do not show up at any of our farms without an appointment and/or unannounced. Trespassing on any HorseNet property is not allowed. If you would like to see one of our horses, please email us to schedule an appointment.

FOSTER HOMES -- We rely heavily on our foster homes and could always use more. If you would like to foster a horse, please email us for more information. NOTE: Actual expenses related directly to the care of your foster horse are tax deducible. Foster homes are required to submit a year end itemized statement with original receipts. Only "companion only" horses are eligible for foster care.

HORSE SPONSORS -- All HorseNet horses could use a sponsor. Sponsors help off-set the costs of maintaining the horse while at HorseNet. Sponsor donations are tax deducible. Click HERE for more information on how you can become a sponsor.

HORSENET CONNECTS -- Under the Connects program, owners surrender the horse to HorseNet and HorseNet maintains legal ownership of the horse, which then falls under our guidelines and supervision, but the original owner keeps the horse on their property (of course not in abuse cases) until a suitable home can be found. This program allows the original owners and the adoptees to meet before the adoption takes place. There is a $100 networking fee. Email us for more information.

RIDEABLE - These horses can be ridden or driven - depending on their training. Any limitations will be noted in their listing. They are not eligible for foster care and have an adoption fee.

ANGEL (formerly Leale) (Arabber)
Angel is in her early teens,15.hh Arabian cross mare. She is very fat. She apparently has been trained but just needs to get back into it. She will shy from the mounting block, but if you get a leg up or mount from the ground she is fine. She was an Arabber horse in Baltimore city - pulling vegetable carts. She is out in a field right now, but doesn't have a halter on; she can be hard to catch. She is totally healthy. She would be fine for driving and trail riding. Her feet are not bad - the farrier just noticed that she had a touch of road founder when she first came in. She has been trimmed several times since then and he feels that she will be fine She is also barefoot and has good feet. She has some trust issues, but is well trained once under saddle - just needs brush-up. Requires intermediate or above rider.

ATHENA
1993 15hh chestnut National Show horse mare. Green and needs someone to definitely work on her training. She has had a person on her back but likes to backup, so she needs someone that can help her get the forward motion thing going on. She is healthy - her only real issue is that she does not tolerate inexperience to any degree - so definitely needs someone who can read her and give her the support she needs. She would make a fabulous endurance horse - she could go all day and not break a sweat.

BAILEY
2001 Thoroughbred gelding. He has been worked with all summer and is a very willing and trusting horse. He does not like working in the ring and has some possible hind end issues. He is ridden in a snaffle and very calm. Since he was once trained as a track horse, he responds well to a light seat and light hands. Would be a perfect trail horse but will only venture off when accompanied by another horse. He WILL NOT allow the hose anywhere near him but can be sponged down. Must be an intermediate rider or higher to ride him.

JOY
Joy is a beautiful Belgian mare in her teens. She came to us from Animal Control in Berk's Co. Pa. She had been used to pull a wagon before but is not trained to ride. You can get on her with a halter and she will stand like a champ, but that's about it. She loves attention and is very much "in your business". She is good on the ground, but is not crazy about the farrier - she won't stand still when her feet are being done and will require someone with the experience to help her work through this issue.

PECOS PETE (Arabber)
Pete is about 10-12 years old - a very striking black and white pony who we think by the way he moves is a Hackney. We call him Pecos Pete because of his huge personality - and when you look at him you can see a big black sombrero on his head with all the glitz and glitter. He's quite a character. This little guy has never been trained to ride, only driven. Pete is deathly afraid of the farrier. When our farrier went to check his feet he tucked his tail, jumped and started to tremble. Our farrier was able to assure him enough to gain access to his front feet, but his back feet will take some more time.

BELLE
1981 Morgan mare. She originally was a range bred Morgan - who had been a brood mare out west. When she was purchased she was covered with whip marks - has been horribly abused, which is why she doesn't like being caught.
