HorseNet Adoptables

HORSENET ADOPTION POLICIES
Please read everything in this section before going to our listings.

HorseNet does not sell horses, but rather adopts them out to suitable and approved homes. HorseNet horses cannot be resold, rehomed or bred and should the need arise and you are no longer able to care for these animals they must be returned to HorseNet (adoption fees will not be refunded). Potential adopters may test ride a horse twice before making a decision. An Adoption Application is required.

ADOPTION FEES -- Assigned to each horse based on their capabilities and help defer the costs incurred by their rescue and rehabilitation. [Click HERE for more information]

SEEING A HORSE -- Horses are shown to prospective adopters by appointment only. Please do not show up at any of our farms without an appointment and/or unannounced. Trespassing on any HorseNet property is not allowed.

**ADOPTION AREA** -- HorseNet adopts out to individuals who are residents of Maryland or those that reside within 2.5 hours of our Mt Airy or New Windsor rescue (use mapquest to find out how far you are from Mt Airy or New Windsor). For the health and safety of our horses we don't make exceptions to this policy.

FOSTER HOMES -- Some horses require extended healing time, have a condition that needs rehabilitation or are just suitable as companion horses. Note: No rideable horses are eligible for foster care. Foster care means you house the horse at either your home or an approved boarding facility and pay all that horse's expenses, which are tax deductible. If you would like to foster a horse, please fill out and submit our adoption application (Write FOSTER at the top.)

HORSE SPONSORS -- Any HorseNet horse is eligible for sponsorship. The fee helps to offset costs while the horse is at HorseNet. Sponsors receive a photo and history of their horse along with being acknowledged on the web site. Sponsors are welcome to come and visit their horses, but MAY NOT ride it. RIDEABLE - These horses can be ridden or driven - depending on their training. Any limitations will be noted in their listing. They are not eligible for foster care and have an adoption fee.

ANGEL (formerly Leale) (Arabber) Angel is in her early teens,15.hh Arabian cross mare. She is very fat. She apparently has been trained but just needs to get back into it. She will shy from the mounting block, but if you get a leg up or mount from the ground she is fine. She was an Arabber horse in Baltimore city - pulling vegetable carts. She is out in a field right now, but doesn't have a halter on; she can be hard to catch. She is totally healthy. She would be fine for driving and trail riding. Her feet are not bad - the farrier just noticed that she had a touch of road founder when she first came in. She has been trimmed several times since then and he feels that she will be fine She is also barefoot and has good feet. She has some trust issues, but is well trained once under saddle - just needs brush-up. Requires intermediate or above rider. Inquire about Angel Currently in Foster Care

ANGELO (formerly Brutus) 20+ year old 15.3hh dark bay Thoroughbred gelding. Before coming to HorseNet, this handsome fella hadn't been ridden in some time; He was being a companion horse. Recently our volunteer got on him and found the only thing he doesn't like to do is take the left lead. He was not jumped, but will be soon. Despite his age, he still has some "go" to him, but has great ground manners, loves his people and would be fine for trail rides, knows dressage and has done hunter shows. BAILEY 2000 (approx) Thoroughbred gelding. He has been worked with all summer and is a very willing and trusting horse. He does not like working in the ring and has some possible hind end issues. He is ridden in a snaffle and very calm. Since he was once trained as a track horse, he responds well to a light seat and light hands. Would be a perfect trail horse but will only venture off when accompanied by another horse. He WILL NOT allow the hose anywhere near him but can be sponged down. BEAUTY (aka Mary Lou) This is Beauty - newly renamed for her new start in life. She is a 20+ year old 15hh Standardbred mare. She is very sweet and because of her age has some arthritic issues. She is trained to ride English. So far needs an intermediate rider because she has been started riding again after 2 years. She does not like to ride alone and has no health issues. Very sweet girl on the ground and need someone to love her. She is very trusting and needs someone who can reinforce that. She loves being brushed and great with ground manners. BIG RED 17 hand 11 year old (approx) chestnut gelding. Quarter Horse/TB cross (Appendix). He is BIG. He has an old injury to his foot but has showed no lameness in that leg. He has been ridden recently, and found to know nothing. Will need training from the ground up. He doesn’t mind being tacked up and sat on, but will need more of ground work and lunging. BLOSSOM This girl is a former broodmare in a herd of basically wild horses. She is not used to being handled by people and has major trust issues, so she needs an experienced horse person that can work with her basic horsemanship skills - catching, feet, etc. She is rideable though with the right training. CECE CeCe is a 7 yr old TB that has not been ridden -- she is pigeon toed and it was thought she wouldn't make a good race horse. She has had a saddle on her but that's it. She is out in a mixed herd right now. She has come into her own and now protects her bucket and acts like a big girl when she knows she can get away with it. She is sweet and likes attention and would be a good project horse for someone that has lots of time and TLC to give. She has an old fracture. Needs training. CIMARRON 10 year old (approx) 16hh narrow Thoroughbred. He just returned to HorseNet and putting on some weight. He will be evaluated soon. He would do well in a turn out with appropriate shelter situation - he was kept in a Quarter horse show barn where they kept him inside 90% of the time and he only got outside 15 minutes or so a day. COCOA (Arabber) 6 year old (approx) Standardbred mare. She went to the 2008 Montgomery county fair and nothing phased her. She was blanketed and went through the whole day without any problems. She should be easy to train, but had an old stifle issue, so she may not be able to handle high levels of riding. She is very, very green and requires training. CODY Cody is a 15.1 hand Tennessee Walker in his early 20’s. He was treated for lymes disease several years ago and has had no problems since. He is only suited for light riding due to some arthritis. He is very quiet and well suited for someone that just wants to putz around. FISH (Gone Fishin) Fish was recently ridden and is a push button horse and knows his job under saddle. Perfect for an intermediate to advanced beginner. No lameness issues as long as his feet are taken care of. He is in his early 20's; He suffered a suspensory injury and may not be jumped - only flat work for this fella. JASPER 2000 (approx) off the track 16.1hh Thoroughbred. He requires an experienced rider. He at one point flipped in the starting gate so he will need to be trained from square one. He is a very handsome guy though and will make a wonderful horse for the right person willing to invest the time. This fella has no limitations - he can be jumped. LADY (Arabber) Lady was an Arabber horse and drives. She is a 15hh Standardbred. She is in her mid to late- teens. She is afraid of a saddle, but I bet if you pulled out harness she'd settle right in. She was used on the streets of Baltimore to pull a vegetable cart. NEBRASKA Nebraska is in his mid-teens. He needs an intermediate to advanced rider that is confident and patient. He has issues with bucking when asked to go into a canter - he doesn't do it all the time, but when he does, he isn't shy about it. The bahavior possibly started from his original training years ago; he was pushed too far too fast. He would do well with someone that let him progress at his own speed and kept him occupied with different things - he is easily bored. He is basically a good boy, but needs experienced hands that won't cause additional issues because of impatience or lack of understanding. PRINCE Very sweet Quarter horse with navicular issues that can be controlled and he can be used for light riding. Requires an educated rider, one prepared. QUICK SMILE 1999 (approx) 15.1hh petite Thoroughbred mare. She has recently been worked with under saddle and is an AMAZING horse. She is the boss and needs someone to give her a job and direction. Only suitable for an advanced rider and carries herself beautifully in the hunter ring. She knows flying changes and mostly every other ground command. ROBEY Robey is about 7yrs old. He needs a lot of handling and needs to go to someone that has the ability to train him. He came from an inbred herd. He is smart. Cannot go to the casual horse owner, requires an experienced owner/trainer. He is topped out at about 14.2hh and that 's as big as he will get. Loads of potential for the right person. SASSY 1989 (approx) Standardbred brood mare who raced (sulky) as a 3 year old. She will need retraining to be a riding horse. She has a wonderful personality and definitely doesn't know that age wise she is in double digits. She would be suitable for someone interested in pulling a cart. SOUL QUESTOR "Soul" Soul is a 7 year old bay TB gelding. He came off the track due to a condular fracture. In October 2007, he was operated on at New Bolton Center, he was in a cast for 6 months. His left foot is smaller due to the cast, and looks a bit clubbed, but all in all he came through it very well. No jumping. Needs retraining. Very sweet horse. Suitable for flatwork only. Needs an intermediate rider. Soul will be adopted out to a person who has the facility for him to stay on turn out as much as possible with access to a run-in shed. SPLASH 14.2 hand welsh-cross paint pony that is looking for a home where he can be happy again. Splash is an accomplished fellow, but some housing changes proved to be too much for him and his past happy attitude changed - he can now be aggressive on the ground. He will be going through some rehabilitation, but once his behavior issues are under control he will be available to the right home. In the past, he has been ridden 4 times a week, jumped lightly, shown in the walk/trot division and fox hunted. Despite his behavior he remains 100% bombproof under saddle. TAZ 2000 (approx) 15.3hh Palamino Appy with big white blanket and big "yellow" spots. Stunning! He has lots of personality. He will be a cool horse for the right person but he does have some behavioral issues and requires an experienced owner willing to work through those issues without hurting him while making the corrections. WELL RAN 1989 (approx) Thoroughbred mare about 16.3 hands. Has raced & was a broodmare - many years ago. She is finally in work again and loving it!! It seems as though she has natural talent in the ring and no problems to hold her back. She is full of power and amazing to ride. Currently being ridden English. Right now she can only be ridden by an advanced rider with confidence. She can pick out the slightest movement in hands or seat and is very sensitive. DOC 20 yr Thoroughbred cross gelding -- he has been a camp horse and done some dressage. He has some lameness issues that will not go away so he would make an ideal companion. He has had many different types of shoes - heels, wide webs, backward shoes, clips, no clips, you name it and we've tried it. He has been getting acupuncture which seems to be helping a bit. IVY 9yr TB mare has a twisted front leg. Ivy came to us from a breeding farm that realized that she would never going to be able to race. We were told that when she was a foal if they caught her leg problem early enough surgery could have fixed the problem. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Ivy is very sweet and having a wonderful time out on 30 acres with her herd of companions. She is very sweet and would make a wonderful companion to anyone that just loves to be with a horse. JAKE (formerly Pet Shop) Jake came to us from Baltimore City -- the name he had when he came to us was "Pet Shop" -- and we did not feel that did him justice. So, the lady that purchased all the arabber ponies for us -- her last name is Jacobson -- so we named him in honor of her help with all the ponies -- and shortened it to Jake. Jake is about 11 hands tall -- and has a crooked front foot. He is very social and sweet, but don't let that fool you - he can be a bit of a handful at times too! KING Beautiful 20 year old dapple grey Quarter horse gelding. Arthritis in front legs/shoulders - would make a beautiful companion, very sweet - would be great around kids, you can do anything with him. King seems to have issues in his shoulder area, but has also some ringbone and navicular issues. He is healthy and just unrideable -- but a very sweet horse - just needs more TLC. KING (Arabber) 31 year old Arabber pony -- is almost blind. We were told that he was on the street at least 7 years pulling a cart. We had a "rolfer" work on him and he said that he has curvature of the spine - so he will be working on that to try to make him more comfortable. LIL TROY 9 yr Standardbred mare came to us scared of people, but has now overcome that fear. She has turned out to be a sweet little girl. Due to leg problems, she is not rideable, but looks forward to having her own family to love and help her build her confidence. No major medical issues. Barefoot. MIDNIGHT A Morgan mare in her late teens. She is a very strong minded horse. She does not like to be bullied and will do whatever you "ask" as long as she is "asked" in the correct way. She had some bad treatment in the past - so will need some time to become trustworthy again. She stands nice for the farrier now - and will stay in a stall with no issues - so she has come a long way. She will trailer in a stock trailer -- will NOT go in a 2 horse. She is a big horse - 16 hands and very wide. We don't think she will be able to be ridden anymore so she is available to a companion home. STAR (Arabber) 20+ year old Arabber pony -- came in with one shoe still hanging on with borium on it so we know he was also pulling on the street - and he is almost deaf. When the "rolfer" worked on him he could tell that he has had several broken ribs in the past. From his ribs being injured he learned how to hold his body stiff so that he could breathe without being in pain... although the injury was a long time ago he still has breathing issues so we will continue to work with him to get him to relax and realize that breathing isn't supposed to hurt. SUNDANCE KID Sundance came to us a couple years ago from Pa, he was in his early 20’s and was never trained to do anything. He apparently bucked someone off when he was being trained as a young horse and no one got on him since…that was what we were told. His is hard to catch & worm if you are not armed with treats. Once he knows you have food he will be your best bud. Sundance is just a big silly boy. No major medical issues. Barefoot.
